How do I send personalised SMS to a list from Excel?

Use one row per contact and put the column names in the first row. Any column can be used as a field in your message:

Phone numbers can be in any common Ugandan format — 0772123456, 772123456, 256772123456 or +256772123456 — and are converted to +256 format before sending.

Create a new contact list in the dashboard, name it, and upload the .xlsx file. The columns from the first row become the list's fields.

On the list's send page, click a field name to insert it into your message. Fields are written between # signs and must match the column name exactly:

Dear #Name#, your balance is UGX #Balance#. Thank you for banking with us.

Grace receives “Dear Grace, your balance is UGX 45,000. Thank you for banking with us.” and Peter receives the same message with his own name and balance.

Then choose the column that holds the phone numbers as the recipient field, and send now or schedule for later.

Credits are counted per recipient after the fields are filled in. A long name or value can push one contact's message past 160 characters, making it two credits for that contact. The platform works out the exact total for the whole list — and checks your balance covers it — before the send starts.

Contacts whose phone number is missing or malformed are skipped and not charged.
